To Live By
Romans 12 9:21
How to act as one of child of
God? I told myself that I am not worthy, I don’t even have the qualities of son
of God, and I’m such a sinner. While reading the book of Romans I consider that
this passage could be entitled ‘A code for Christians to live by’. I am
not going to explain of each verse because it’s going to take a lot of time. As Christian it is important
that we live a life that is worthy to the Lord, that Glorify the Lord.
Would the
Lord look at our lives and see the following in our thoughts, actions, and
deeds? It is a challenge to all of us that is for sure.
Let us ponder over the truths in scripture and let us
feel challenged to apply every sentence of it to our daily walk with HIM.
[9] Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold
fast to what is good.
[10] Love
one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.
[11] Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in
spirit, serve the Lord.
[12] Rejoice
in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.
[13]
Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.
[14] Bless
those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them.
[15] Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with
those who weep.
[16] Live in harmony with one another. Do not be
haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
[17] Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought
to do what is honorable in the sight of all.
[18] If possible, so far as it depends on you, live
peaceably with all.
[19]
Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is
written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
[20] To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry,
feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you
will heap burning coals on his head.”
[21] Do not
be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
The verses are very challenging, without God’s guidance it will
be difficult for us. Just to pick out one of the verses, “Rejoice in hope, be
patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer”. As we rejoice in hope, in what
is to come, we must be patient in trials and suffering. Oftentimes we will find
that our destiny feels a lot different from our dreams. Here we suffer and do
not enjoy what was given. But Paul tells us that our present suffering is incomparable
to the glory that God will reveal to us. Because we rejoice in hope, we can be
patient in tribulation. Weeping will pass for the night, but joy comes in the morning.
And as we rejoice in hope and be patient in tribulation, we
should be constant in prayer. That is, making a relationship with God through
constant prayer and reading His words. Draw near to him. How else can we really
rejoice in hope? How else can we be patient in tribulation? Let us be swallowed
up into our relationship with God. Let us know him and love him and tell him
all our heart. God is always with us no matter what.
